Ultra‐Yunicorn Investors: Firms with the largest portfolio of startups valued at $5 billion or more

  • Ultra‐juicorns are a growing group of privately owned companies valued at $5 billion or more. in the first half of 2025, 17 companies joined this elite 211-member club.
  • Crunchbase data shows that, along with active investor firms, private equity investors are also making a significant contribution to financing these highly valued private companies. Although ultra-junicorns make up about 13% of the list of companies on the Unicorn Board, they account for more than half of their total value - about $3.5 trillion.

It is noteworthy that in terms of the number of investments in this list, half are venture capital firms, and the other half are private equity investors. Private capital allows investors to create a larger portfolio through their next-stage investments.

Early-stage investors

Andreessen Horowitz, Accel, and Sequoia Capital have supported companies such as Scale AI, Databricks, Stripe, and Klarna, who have made the most investments by them in the Series A and B stages.

Active investors in the Chinese market are IDG Capital (Beijing), HSG (formerly known as Sequoia Capital China, Hong Kong, China), and Tencent from Shenzhen. Among private capital investors, there is less activity.
Seed Phase Leaders

Y Combinator leads in the number of portfolios at the seed stage - about 10% of seed investments among startups valued at more than $5 billion. He followed companies such as Rippling, Scale AI, Deel.
SV Angel is in second place - having invested in startups such as Harvey and Notion at an early stage.

Private equity firms SoftBank and SoftBank Vision Fund are the largest investors associated with ultra-junicorns, and they are at the top of the list in terms of the volume of tourism they lead.
In addition, Big Tech companies such as Meta and Microsoft supported Scale AI and OpenAI.
Andreessen Horowitz and Sequoia Capital are also on the list of tour investors worth $8 billion+.

Some ultra-unicorns, including Figma ($12.5 billion), Navan ($9.2 billion), Klarna ($6.7 billion), have now secretly submitted their IPO documents to the SEC.
Investors invested a total of 482 billion dollars in the companies of this group from 2000 to 2025.
According to the agreement, the bank will sell 49% of the shares of Tenge Bank, a subsidiary of Click in Uzbekistan, to its shareholders for $60.76 million.
